2008-06-06 Sleep deprived

June 6th, 2008 · 4 Comments

I didn’t sleep well at all. Solid wooden benches and bright lights tend to have that effect on me. The sky was cloudy and it looked like it was still raining further down the valley. I only felt a few drops all day but it felt like it could arrive at any time.

The long road north

My thighs were a bit sore from yesterday’s excessive distance, but I find I recover physically pretty quickly now. The lack of sleep got to me though. I was yawning for most of the morning and struggling to stay in a positive mood. Feeling glum and lonely is a slippery slope out here and I was wallowing in a bad mood for many hours. I finally decided I needed sleep more than money so I’d pay for a business hotel despite having one less than 48 hours earlier.
Interesting shrines around here

None of the stores I asked in knew of any and everyone suggested the same place when I said I’d take a camp site. It was where I had planned on heading when I started this morning and it is were I am now. But it’s not what I expected. The baseball field is in use, quite loudly, so I retreated into the forest and found some flat ground next to an interesting shrine. You’ll have to see the photo because I’m not describing it. Certainly an amusing end to a very trying day.

Word of the day: ne-mu-i = sleepy

Distance today: 51 km

I’ve splatted an email around at work asking everybody to register and vote for you on Seero…so hopefully you should notice a big pick kup in your number of votes.
