One Man Walking

2008-05-11 33km in a straight line

May 11th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I left the thin cotton kimono of the Plaza hotel on the bed and my crumpled “waterproof” clothing in the bin and started the 33km, dead flat, almost straight, walk to Gillian’s place. By the time I saw her apartment block I was limping on each leg. My right knee and left ankle are both very sore and I’ll be breaking my no-car rule tomorrow. No forward progress, just errands like post-office and camping shop visits.

Gillian is a South African girl I met in Kyoto 5 weeks ago. She left a key out for me and instructions to make myself feel at home. So I rushed, as much as one can when feeling like he has a golfball under the skin behind his knee, to the computer. She came home later and through some divine inspiration brought me exactly the meal I’d been craving for days. A simple pasta and meat sauce was exactly what I wanted to start a few days of carbo-loading.

I felt full again and am ready to start recovering before hitting the cities of central Honshu.

Word of the day: i-ta-mi = pain

Craig take a couple of days from your
walk & try & relax a little – sounds as
though you need Mum’s cooking etc.
    Blogs & pics most interesting.
