One Man Walking

Happily Unemployed

March 16th, 2008 · No Comments

A long, long time ago, in Washington state (which is far, far away), I talked to Rigatoni and Angelhair (collectively known as The Noodleheads) about what they “do”. It was them that instilled in me the belief that what one does for a job should not define you. Sure, that’s what you do for money and hopefully you can get some enjoyment out of it, but when meeting someone for the first time finding out their job does not give you the whole picture of who they are. So now I try to avoid the stereotypical question of “What do you do?” and try something like “What are you into?”. Until yesterday what I did was software development. Now I’m unemployed. Soon I’ll be homeless too and what I’ll be doing is walking around all day. Does that define. Do you understand Craig Stanton from those three snippets? I doubt it. But I’m going to a wedding today where I am the “plus one” and I’ll have chance to gauge people’s reactions to what I do.   I left work yesterday reasonably quietly. No great fan-fare, just shaking hands, promises to keep in touch and one of those giant novelty cards signed by people who were mostly able to write something specific since they all know what I’m about do. So now I have two weeks to sell my stuff. Learn to read Hiragana (ひらがな) and Katakana (カタカナ)
